FAQ

What is FireFoil and how does it work?

FireFoil Shields are advanced thermal barriers engineered to protect structures from the extreme heat and embers generated by wildfires. They reflect 96.5% of radiant heat and 92% of conductive heat away from the surfaces they shield. In addition, they offer exceptional defense against burning embers, which cause 80-90% of structure ignitions and can travel over two miles while retaining heat.

FireFoil has conducted extensive laboratory testing to ensure its shields keep structural materials, such as wood, below the critical autoignition temperature of 575°F—the point at which wood begins to release volatile organic compounds that can ignite with a single spark. Test results show that FireFoil shields maintain surface temperatures below 188°F even after 10 minutes of exposure to high-intensity radiant heat, allowing enough time for a fire to pass without igniting the structure.

How is it deployed?

FireFoil shields are designed for temporary deployment when wildfire conditions threaten your area. They are installed using the mounting hardware provided in one of our deployment kits, following a custom deployment plan tailored to your structure.

Depending on the size, complexity of your home, and the level of protection required, the process can be completed by property owners, trained service providers, or local deployment partners.

When do I deploy my shield?

You should deploy your FireFoil shield before an evacuation order is issued — ideally when a wildfire is near and conditions indicate a heightened threat.

Here’s a good rule of thumb:

  • When a Red Flag Warning is issued (indicating dry, windy, hot, extreme fire danger), start monitoring wildfire activity. You can use inciweb on our website or other apps such as Watch Duty for this.
  • It is critical you have your Fire Shields on hand days before a wildfire arrives. Allow time to order your shields and process the order, 1-day, delivery 1 to 2 days, with overnight options available. Having your Fire Shields on-site when you need them means you’ll have time to save your home.
  • Pre-evacuation warning or when you receive a ‘Ready’ or ‘Set’ alert in the wildfire preparedness stages, start your wrap.
  • If a wildfire is within 5 miles or 2–3 days away, that’s the time to begin wrapping.
  • If you have heavy fuel between your home and the fire, or officials are warning of a pending evacuation for your neighborhood, start your wrapping. Do NOT wait until an official evacuation order (“Go”) — at that point, roads will be closed and you and carriers such as UPS and Fed-Ex will not be allowed in to deliver your shields.Pro Tip:It’s smart to wrap as early as practical — especially if wildfire activity is increasing in your area — so you can safely shield your home and leave with confidence.

How much does it cost?

The cost of your home’s FireFoil shield depends on a few key factors:

  • The size and complexity of your home (including footprint, number of floors, and overall shape)
  • The level of protection you’d like — from standard coverage to extreme duty protection

To get an accurate estimate, we recommend checking out our Product and Pricing Guide and using our Cost Estimator Tool. Just enter your home’s details and the tool will calculate an approximate cost for shielding your home.

How do shields compare to other wildfire protection solutions on the market?

FireFoil provides long-lasting protection that helps reduce both heat and smoke damage—advantages that other solutions like sprinklers, foams/gels, and private firefighting services often lack. Unlike methods that depend on water, power, or last-minute availability, FireFoil can be planned in advance and deployed proactively as wildfire threats arise. It complements other protection strategies and offers an added layer of resilience.

Will FireFoil help me with my insurance?

We're on a mission to restore affordability and accessibility to property owners in wildfire-prone regions. That’s why we’re actively working with insurance carriers to make FireFoil a recognized solution that can help you obtain coverage and/or reduce your premiums.

As part of the buying process, we’ll ask for your insurance information so we can reach out to your carrier and begin that conversation on your behalf.

Do you offer returns?

Because FireFoil is in such high demand—especially during active wildfire events—we are unable to guarantee availability for every homeowner who needs protection. When a customer orders and later decides to return their shields, it means we may have missed the chance to provide coverage to someone else whose home was at risk.

To ensure fairness and availability during critical times, we do accept returns within 14 days of delivery, but with a 30% restocking fee and excluding shipping costs. All returns must be unused and in original packaging.

This approach allows us to better serve those who rely on FireFoil when it matters most.
